I have used the Canon ST-E3-RT (version 1) trigger with the 430 EX III-RT and 600EX-RT (version 1) flashes for off camera flash for several years. Previously they worked flawlessly but now the signal gets dropped within a minute of switching everything on. The units are all on the same channel and have the same ID with fresh batteries.
Note that the compensation is not displayed on the remote flash's display, but it is nonetheless working to adjust the flash. Manual-mode flash setting works remotely with 580EX II, but not 580EX. The 580EX II's display updates to show the manual setting selected remotely using the Godox.

With on- or off-camera TTL flash the exposure can change if you zoom your lens even though the subject to flash distance doesn't change, which is why you should be using Manual Flash Power Mode with off-camera flash. Re: Canon S5-IS flash difficulties. It takes the flash capacitor about 8 secs to fully charge from 0 state. This is why the flash does not immediately go off when you depress the shutter release just right after raising the flash. The long flash recharge time is the one negative I have against the S5.
