The sound of a stock BMW R Nine T exhaust. Right off the showroom floor, the BMW R Nine T sounds excellent, and this is a high compliment form a guy that's modified every exhaust system prior. Ok, to be honest, I did play with this one a bit too, but not much. This isn’t the case with the BMW alone; all modern scramblers I’ve ridden are primarily road bikes, and they handle like road bikes on dirt. There’s a reason the Japanese invented the dirt bike some 40-odd years ago – probably because scramblers didn’t work that well off-road. Even though the Scrambler shares the engine and chassis with the R nineT, a lot of things have been changed to give a unique touch to the Scrambler. Being an off-roader, the Scrambler loses out on the 17-inch front wheel and gets a 19-inch wheel instead. It also gets a taller handlebar and higher seat to compliment the off-road nature of the bike.

Average those measurements. Your total travel on the scrambler is 140mm. Sag should be somewhere around 40–45 mm (or a little more if you want plush). If you are less, decrease preload, if more, increase it. Adjust your rear preload until you get close to these numbers. Test ride. I was looking for a bike capable of minor off road stuff. I’m 5’6”, and the UGS fits me. The Triumph street scrambler seemed less capable off road and the high pipe gets in the way, the 1200 xe was too tall and the 1200 xc was ok but really too heavy, and the high pipe heat was a total deal breaker. avxz.
